Cybersecurity

Practical cybersecurity for small businesses, explained in plain language.

Security is not a product you buy once. It is a set of practical choices across your people, computers, accounts, and backups. We keep those protections in place as your business changes.

The basics, kept in place

Reduce avoidable risk without making work harder than it needs to be.

Most incidents we see are not sophisticated. They are a convincing fake email, a reused password, or a computer that missed months of updates. Sensible, consistent protection stops most of it.

  • Stronger sign-ins for business accounts (multi-factor authentication)
  • Security updates and protection on every managed computer
  • Control of who can reach company information
  • Monitoring for suspicious activity and unusual sign-ins
  • Backups that are tested, with a practical recovery plan
  • Plain-language guidance so your team recognizes scams

Cyber insurance

Buying cyber insurance is not the same as being covered.

Every cyber insurance policy comes with requirements: multi-factor authentication, protected computers, working backups, and more. Industry estimates put the share of claims that are denied or only partially paid at roughly a quarter to 40%, often because the business had the policy but not the protections it required.

That gap exists because most small businesses have no one keeping them compliant with their own policy. Keeping those requirements met is IT work, and it is part of how we look after clients.

  • Review what your policy actually requires, in plain language
  • Put the required protections in place and maintain them
  • Document what is in place, so you can show it at renewal or claim time
  • Flag gaps before the insurer or an incident finds them

When something looks wrong

Ask before you click.

If an email, sign-in request, or payment change feels unusual, your team can ask us to look. Early questions are easier to handle than cleanup later.

If something happens

Know how you will respond.

We help plan what should be protected, where recoverable copies should exist, and what the first steps are when work is interrupted.

Questions

Questions about cybersecurity and cyber insurance

What does small business cybersecurity actually include?

The practical basics, kept in place every day: stronger sign-ins (multi-factor authentication, a second step beyond the password), security updates and protection on every computer, control over who can reach company information, backups you can actually restore from, and plain-language guidance so your team recognizes scam emails and unusual requests.

What is cyber insurance, and why does it involve IT?

Cyber insurance helps cover the cost of an incident such as ransomware or a stolen account. Every policy also comes with requirements, such as multi-factor authentication, protected computers, and working backups. If those are not in place and documented when something happens, the insurer can reduce or deny the claim. Keeping those requirements met is IT work, which is why it belongs with your IT provider.

Can you help us meet our cyber insurance policy requirements?

Yes. We review what your policy asks for, put the required protections in place, and maintain them as your business changes. When renewal season comes, you can answer the insurer's questions honestly and show the work if you need to file a claim.

We already answered 'yes' on our insurance application. Is that enough?

Only if those answers are still true today. Insurers can check whether the protections you attested to were actually in place when an incident happened. A 'yes' on a form, without the work behind it, is one of the most common reasons claims are reduced or denied.

Do small businesses really get attacked?

Yes. Small businesses are common targets precisely because attackers expect weaker protection. The most common problems we see are fake emails designed to steal passwords or redirect payments, and accounts signed into from places they should not be.
